Collin Brown

I am a certified life coach, teacher, and healer who discovered early in my career that experiential learning is a powerful tool for change, growth, and creative expression. I love learning as a process for self-discovery and as a community enterprise.  As a teacher and life coach, I enjoy helping people tap into their own inner resources for greater wisdom and satisfaction.

I have been a spiritual seeker most of my life, and it is a privilege to help others explore how their souls call them to deeper awareness and fulfillment. I experience life as a great adventure that continually invites me to grow, stretch, and deepen my connection to nature and spirit. I describe below the life experiences and teachers that have shaped my development.

I live in Port Townsend, Washington (about two hours north of Seattle).

Professional Background

I am certified as a life coach by the Coaches Training Institute (CTI), a leader in the field of professional coaching. I facilitate videoconference courses on The Artist's Way, which uses Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way as its curriculum. I also teach workshops and classes for the Body Electric School.

I spent eight years (1980-1988) in the academic world as the director of the Radcliffe Publishing Course, a summer institute at Harvard University that prepared students for careers in book and magazine publishing. I enjoyed developing experiential curriculum and helping people explore career paths in both the business and creative arenas of publishing

Through trainings I attended with Salvador Roquette (Agua Viva) and Jerry Jud (Shalom Mountain), I was drawn to the intersection of psychotherapy and bodywork. I spent a year in graduate school at John F. Kennedy University (Orinda, Calfornia) where I focused on transpersonal psychology. I also trained with Jack Painter and learned Postural Integration, an approach to deep tissue massage that combines Reichian breathwork, Rolfing, and Gestalt.

I became the owner/director of the Body Electric School in 1992. For 15 years I created and led classes for men and women that combined movement, touch, breathwork, ritual, and process work that allowed students to explore their own bodies as containers for healing, wisdom, emotional depth, spiritual vitality, eros, and joy.

In 1999 I created the Wildwood Conservation Foundation, a nonprofit corporation that purchased and now manages Wildwood Retreat, a 210-acre retreat in Guerneville, California. I served as the president of the board of directors from 1999 to 2001.

I am a founding board member of KPTZ, a community radio station start-up in Port Townsend. We received FCC approval to broadcast, raised $255,000 including a federal grant of $150,000 to purchase equipment, and have been on the air since May 16, 2011.

In 2009 I attended The Art of Ritual Leading, a yearlong training with Rite of Passage Journeys, taught by Randy Morris, chair of the Spirituality Department at Antioch in Seattle. This course provided a theoretical framework for the ritual leading I have done over the years and introduced me to the work of Bill Plotkin. His book Nature and the Human Soul: Cultivating Wholeness and Community in a Fragmented World speaks very powerfully about the importance of initiation at all stages of our human development.
